Different when it is your own.

I am so thrilled that we have been helping families in the Tulsa area navigate the aging and special needs worlds for almost 12 years now.
if you can think it, I have heard it! the stories I hear can certainly qualify to be in the running for best drama/comedy sitcom.
I try really hard to be a good listener, to be empathetic, to relate to the new realities that people face with the aging process. I feel as if I can really relate. That new reality often rears its ugly head in the cruel world of Alzheimer.
we know that world quite well at Purview life. we have all the tools to give someone the best life possible given their condition and circumstances.
yet, what I am experiencing recently is a testimonial to the incredible value our objectivity brings to the table.
you see! my mom whos is nearing 80 years old is starting to show signs of cognitive decline. I should know how to handle the situation. after all, I just stated the 12 years of living it with clients and the all the tools to handle it right?
it could not be further from the truth. I may know it intellectually. But, the truth of the matter is that there are way too many emotional buttons being pushed because it is my mother! no matter how hard I try, I see that denial and justification is the lead actor in my sitcom.
I know that I know that the best thing for me to do is to ask my colleagues to step in and provide me with the same value of objectivity. I can rest assured now that I am serving my mom best by having an objective expert help me help her.
