Care Management for Aging Parents

Hands of a teenage girl and her grandmother

You didn’t apply for this job. One day you were a son or a daughter, and the next you were a scheduler, a medical interpreter, a pharmacy negotiator, and a referee for family disagreements, all while holding down your own life. The love is not the problem. The load is.

Care management for aging parents exists because no one person should have to carry that load alone, and because caring for an aging parent well takes skills most families were never taught. Purview Life brings those skills: nursing experience, medical insight, and social work know-how, all under one roof in Tulsa. You don’t have to do this alone. You’re not expected to.

What Care Management for Aging Parents Includes

Think of us as the general contractor of your parent’s care. Physicians, attorneys, facilities, and financial advisors are the subcontractors, each skilled at one trade. We manage every moving part, keep them working from the same plan, and guide your family through the decisions along the way.

Under that one roof sits the full service set:

  • High level consultation when a sudden diagnosis, a cognitive change, or a family shift turns everything upside down
  • Collaboration with care facilities and with medical, legal, and financial professionals
  • Advocacy at every appointment, hospital stay, and emergency room visit
  • Unbiased assessments that clarify decisions, in reports strong enough to be admissible in court
  • Healthcare Power of Attorney through our Just In Case program
  • Guardianship, including for disabled and special-needs loved ones
  • Care center placement, matched to the person rather than to whoever has a bed open
  • Benefits reviews that find and maximize what your parent is entitled to

Some families need one piece. Many start with one and grow into more as needs change.

It Usually Starts With One Overwhelming Moment

Few families call us on a good day. They call after the diagnosis lands, after the second fall, after Dad got lost driving home, or after a hospital discharge that left everyone with instructions and no plan. Our consultation starts right there. We assess what’s actually going on, medically, cognitively, socially, and financially, then lay out a plan in plain language with the options ranked and the trade-offs named.

Then we don’t hand you the plan and wave goodbye. We run it, adjust it, and sit down with your family at semiannual or quarterly care-plan meetings so it keeps up with your parent’s life instead of gathering dust in a drawer.

Advocacy at Every Appointment, Not Just the Big Ones

Here’s where we differ from services that observe from a distance. We accompany your parent to the emergency room, through hospital stays, and to all other appointments as our standard practice. We manage the communication between providers, question tests and procedures that look duplicated or unnecessary, and reconcile every medication change to prevent adverse drug reactions.

The results are concrete. Our advocacy helps prevent rehospitalization, has caught double-charging for services, and has prevented errors before they reached our clients. Research shared by the Aging Life Care Association estimates failed care coordination wastes $27 billion to $78 billion a year. Your parent should not be part of that statistic, and with an advocate in the room, they won’t be.

Finding the Right Care Setting Before a Crisis Picks One for You

Sooner or later, many families face the housing question. Stay home with support? Assisted living? Memory care? The worst version of that decision happens in a hospital lobby with a discharge deadline, choosing from whichever facilities have an open bed.

We do it differently. Our care center placement works like matchmaking. We know the communities in and around Tulsa, the ones whose marketing matches reality and the ones whose staffing tells a different story, and we match your parent’s medical needs, personality, and budget to the setting where they’ll genuinely do well. Then we stay involved after move-in, because placement isn’t the finish line, it’s a handoff we supervise.

Alongside placement, we dig into benefits. Veterans programs, long-term care policies, and assistance options go unclaimed every year simply because nobody knew to ask. Finding and maximizing what your parent is entitled to often changes which doors are open.

When Someone Needs the Legal Authority to Act

Coordination and advocacy solve most problems. Some situations demand more. When authorized, Purview Life serves as Healthcare Power of Attorney, making healthcare decisions aligned with your parent’s wishes when they can no longer make them. Families set this up through our Just In Case program, often because the adult children live far away, or because naming one sibling over another would start a war.

Where the court appoints us, we also serve as legal guardian, protecting vulnerable adults, including disabled and special-needs persons, against fraud, self-harm, abuse, and undue influence. And when families end up in disputes over capacity or care, our court-admissible assessments and expert witness testimony bring an objective voice into an emotional fight.

An Objective Expert When the Family Can’t Agree

Siblings rarely see a parent’s decline the same way. One thinks Mom is fine. One wants her in assisted living yesterday. One lives out of state and hears about everything thirdhand. We’ve sat in the middle of that conversation hundreds of times, and an unbiased professional assessment changes its temperature. Facts replace impressions. A plan replaces the argument.

We’ll be honest with you, too. If your parent is safer than you fear, we’ll say so. If things are worse than anyone wants to admit, we’ll say that as well. Families don’t hire us to be agreeable. They hire us to be right.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Medicare or insurance cover care management?

No. We are a private-pay service, and Medicare and health insurance do not cover care management at this time. Some long-term care policies offer a cash option that families can put toward our services.

Are you a home care agency?

No. We don’t employ caregivers or send caregivers into your parent’s home. When hands-on help is needed, we collaborate with trusted home care agencies, and we coordinate and monitor that care so you’re not left supervising it yourself.

Will hiring a care manager push me out of my parent’s care?

The opposite. You stay the son or daughter, and the decisions that belong to your family stay with your family. We take the coordination, paperwork, and follow-through off your plate, and we bring you options instead of chaos.

My parent refuses help. Can you still do anything?

Usually, yes. Resistance often softens when the conversation comes from a neutral professional instead of a worried child. We start slow, build trust, and protect your parent’s dignity and independence at every step, which is generally what the resistance was guarding in the first place.

How do we get started?

Start with a conversation. Contact us at 918-935-2020 and describe the situation. From there we typically begin with an assessment and a consultation, and you’ll leave that first meeting with a clear picture and a plan, whatever you decide about working with us long term.

What if my parents live in Tulsa but I don’t?

That’s one of the most common situations we serve. We become your eyes and ears on the ground, attend everything in person, and send you plain-language updates, so distance stops deciding the quality of your parent’s care.
